Massive Bird House in the making

Passed by a massive Bird House (swiftlet farming) in the making. Must be owned by a big towkay. I guess the owner shall be making lots of money even with one floor occupied. Let's give our best wishes to the owner. I could not find the bird entrance hole. Maybe it's not completely built yet. Maybe the owner shall invite everyone for the opening ceremony.

Effective Microbs (E.M.), Eco Enzmes & Growth Hormones

Did some reading on E.M, Eco Enzyme & growth hormones. Decide to DIY some to give it a try. Did one with papaya for E.M., did one with small banana shoot for growth hormones, and another one with a purchase compost. I'll  do an update when it's fermented. Cheers.

Male Papaya Trees

The leaf dropping does not seems to affect the male plant.

Papaya trees dropping leafs

I wonder what is happening to the papayas trees in this area. The leafs had dropped off, but the tree is still growing and fruiting. This is happening to all fruiting trees (female) but not the non-fruiting trees (male). I also notice that the leafs are growing back. Tried to google but can find anything yet. Who can help?

Auger

Auger, or earth driller. A machine that drill into the earth. We decided to buy a couple of these to try it out. It's very useful for planting trees and even fencing post! The earth that was brought up had been loosen and makes it ideal for planting.
Am also thinking of changing the drill bit to a smaller size, drill holes next to trees to put fertilizer.

Free Honey

I guess there might be some free lunch after all. It'll be nice to supplement the farm income by building some bee houses and let the bees do all the work. Pics taken at a bee farm in Vietnam. There even organize tours to their farm. I wonder if it can be done here?

Recyclling

Recycling involves processing used materials (waste) into new products (quote from wikipedia). I came across this interesting uses of waste from rice mill during my Vietnam trip. The rice husk. I'm sure we have plenty in our country. They had used the rice husk for cooking and turn the burned husk to fertilizer. They even mixed the rice husk with logan shells to bring up the aroma. The burned rice husk (carbon, not ash) is then used as a fertilizer.

Background

I'm a middle aged man and would like to share with everyone with interest in starting a farm, farming technique, farming studies, farming experiments, farming machinery and anything/everything needed in farming. All help / advise are welcomed. If you have any feasible technique to try out? I have no knowledge in farming, and IT, but what the heck. Hence the term Arm Chair Farmer (i copied this term from a friend). Let's share our experience. Just Do It (slogan from Nike).

Our goal is to start a sustainable and feasible farm, with simple and practical practices. We'll try our best to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

We had decided to start with rubber trees. Why rubber trees? Well, i really don't know. One of the partners had some experience in rubber trees, so rubber it is. As for me, i guess if you go into farming and if you do it sincerely, with passion, I'm sure that it's sufficient to put food on the table. We had decide to plant clones obtained from certified nusery, Lembaga Industri Getah Sabah . Clones has many advantages such as faster and higher yield, stronger resistance against disease.

Starting a Blog

Wow, i had successfully started my own blog, this is a great success for someone with no IT knowledge. Had been pushing this for the pass 6 months and finally had the courage to do it today. I must say that it's very simple to do, with the Google E Blogger. Thank you Google.
